April showers bring May flowers

Updated: May 2, 2020

Or so the saying goes...

But with these chilly temperatures we’ve been having, and the lack of sunshine, it is feeling less-than-spring-like.

Fact: I love spring!

The promise of more sunshine, the smell of freshly cut grass, family BBQ’s, and the idea of a warm summer on the horizon.

Now is the perfect time to bring in spring.

With all of us spending a lot more time at home, it feels like the perfect time to start, and hopefully encourage Mother Nature to reward us.

Lighten up!

Pull up the shades, open the curtains, and let the light in. Open the windows if it isn’t too cold...even for a few minutes to bring in a little freshness.

Change is good.

If, like me, you have extra bedding in the closet, now is the time to change it. Bring out your pretty coverlet or lighter quilt, and fold the duvet at the end of the bed so you can pull it up on chillier nights.

Clear the clutter.

Give the top of your nightstands and dresser a refresh by removing the books and magazines you’ve already read and trade them with a friend or family member who you think would enjoy them. To keep things tidy, corral the miscellaneous items, like watches, jewelry, etc. on a small dessert plate or tray from your kitchen. I always shop my house and find new uses for things that I have collected.

Treat yo' self.

Treat yourself to some fresh cut flowers! Tulips and daffodils always say Spring to me. Many local flower shops and markets are open, with curbside pickup or delivery. Place them in your bedroom so you see them when you wake up, and move them to your desk / kitchen / dining room so you can enjoy them all day long!

Spread joy.

Surprise a friend! Leave some flowers on their doorstep, or send the kids on a hunt to find a puzzle or game they are willing to share and ask them to write a little note or card to include with the box. Baking more goodies these days? Drop off an extra scone or treat to your neighbour, they will love the sweet gesture!
